I just heard my last call to prayer here (I'll be on the way to the airport when Isha is called). It is really sad to leave, and I have to admit I had a tear in my eye as I stood there listening. This place and its sights, sounds, and smells get into your soul.
Thanks to everyone who has stopped by with comments and support and even those few who have criticized. I've had a great time. I'll still post things here when it strikes my fancy.
Here's one (actually a twofer!) for the road:

Bon Voyage and travel safely.
Safe journey.
Sense your sadness. Wish you, Bss and the kids the very best. Man, am going to miss reading this blog, and about Al Ain.
Safe journeys back home.
This is immensely sad: you will be sorely missed.
God bless you and family. Thanks for the wonderful blog of yours.
Thanks for the kind words everyone. I have arrived safely back home.
Al Ain will miss you. Please let us know when you start a new blog. I will surely come visiting!
All the best & Good Luck with whatever you are planning to do now Sir :-)
I am coming in very late here, Bss has been on my heart (she and I e-mailed some & knew each other from the hs boards, but lost touch) I've thought about you all. Tell her Julie sends her prayers.
Peace,
Julie/Joyful Days
Brn: your balanced and sensible posts will be missed!
Bss & Brn:
As you settle back into 'Merca.... let us know which side of the ocean was actually insane.....
I must admit I haven't stopped by for a while. Sorry to hear you have left the UAE. I've been away from Al Ain for a year, although only down the road, and I do miss it. Hope it all works out for you, I wish you all the best. Keep posting, let us know how life is on the 'outside'.
i was just searching for pictures of alain to put in my blog and i came across ur blog! Oh...i just miss alain! i was born there and had spent 16 years of my life there! and i still have teras in my eyes when i think of al ain!its a beautiful city when compared to the hustle and bustle of the other cities in the the emirates! But hope that you must b very happily settled with your family and kids!god bless
Believe it or not, I was sad to read that you were leaving. Hope your settled well. Actually I had this plan of coming to the library and looking for a white man with a beard :) but things kept on coming up and by the end of the day, I just want to drive back to Dubai.
God bless and your family.
Al Ain "The Royal Town"
Once riding on dirt roads in 1985 I ended in Oman from the UAE without knowing it. Arriving clueless in a small town/village lookalike I asked Policemen my way back to Al Ain.
All cops jumped off their chair and asked for my passport.... I only had my driving license from the UAE , and was acting strange not understanding yet that I was in Oman indeed.
To make it short we had a tea, smoked a few cigarettes and they sent me on my way back to the UAE. The fact that I was driving alone was what bothered them the most.
Fun enough, I never saw the border on my way back neither... :)
AL Ain... my first contact in the UAE.
All the best, I'll certainly miss your posts on Al Ain.
Make sure you come back and visit us :-)
Curses - missed the chance to ask to put my new fangled blog on your list, so I shall be presumptious and add a link.
I hope I find the balance in time that you have. Good luck

HLH
Thanks to everyone for your wonderful comments.
No, that couldn't have been me HLH, I wasn't there, though I wish I was sometimes. (Of course, then I see that the temperature is nearly 50 already, and I have second thoughts.)
lol brn, it ain't that different in north/south carolina these days :)
we were baking at 105+ degrees in nyc this week :)
Brn....if you were still in Al Ain there was a good chance of us meeting :)
LOL not sure if that would have been a good thing or not, but sure am curious to meet everybody I know on the blog world...you must be Al Ain sick :)
Al Ain...what can I say...having a tough time finding a place to stay, the rents are so high in the decent places I would consider (in terms of safety)...
The new Al Ain is not the Al Ain I loved one day :(
Hope you're well.
thanks anonymous,
It would have been nice to meet too. I always enjoyed running into people that only "knew" me from this blog.
Yes, I am very "home"-sick for Al Ain (I will always consider it a second home), but I'm also happy to be back home here too. Best wishes
