Hurricanes, Walmart, and Pop-Tarts

This post at Marginal Revolution about Walmart's reaction reminded me of something I saw last year on an American news show. Walmart keeps a database of buying patterns at its stores so that it can know what to ship where. One of their employees discovered that whenever a hurricane hit, the stores sold out of strawberry Poptarts. So now whenever a hurricane is approaching, they ship a whole mess of strawberry Poptarts to the region before hand so the stores will have enough.

Mmm, Poptarts...

Well it would be real bad if you had to go through a hurricane and a pop tart shortage!

And as a side note, poptarts are not a leathal projectile, not even at hurricain force speeds..... er , well, ok maybe it would sting alittle to get hit by a poptart at 150 mph.....
