This photo is definitely one that I would never take today because it is so commonplace to me now, but if I look at it as the person who got here 18 months ago, then several things stick out.
The most obvious is, look at all the palm trees! They are all over the place! Isn't that cool? Where can you see date palms like that back home?
Less obvious, but more relevant to everyday life is the road itself. Unlike home, Al Ain is literally divided into neighborhoods by the big three lane roads. (Also, to rub it in to those of you in Dubai, notice all the traffic?)
The last thing that jumped out was the minaret that can just be made out to the right of the light pole. Just look in any direction in Al Ain, you can probably see a minaret.
