Camel Souk has moved

The Camel Souk, to which I posted directions before, has moved to an area south of the south of the city now. We finally took a trip down that way to see exactly where it is.

To get to the new souk, you want to drive south from the Murabbaa (Coffee Pot) Roundabout (south is directly away from the Flyover). Go straight through the roundabout at the Hilton Road and head out of town. You will drive about 7 kilometers farther south, past the military school. The souk is on the other side of the road, so you will need to make a U-turn at the roundabout before the Omani border. There is a sign telling where to turn off the road, and then the souk is about 1 km farther, at the end of the road.

Not planning to buy any camels right at the moment...but given I don't have a Land Cruiser, it might just be a good idea...

There's something mighty big coming up in the general area of the old location, a massive construction fence is up, and on Thursday afternoon quite a few concrete mixer trucks and concrete pumps wre seen in action between the huge mounds of dirt that had been dug up...any clue as to what the project might be...?

The old place will be getting a couple of hundred homes for the locals. My company is working there on 2 different projects.

At the new location of the camel souk, we're also building a shopping mall. The camel souk is kinda temporary. Once the new construction is complete, the camels will be getting new neighbours..its basically a new livestock market, so there's going to be cows, sheep and everybody else. What a jolly party.
