Here is a short (5 minutes) YouTube video about Al Ain from AME Info. It covers things like archeology and history, the oasis, museums, camel souk, parks, and zoo.
This blog began as a description of our life in Al Ain, UAE (United Arab Emirates). Brn worked at the UAE University Libraries Deanship for three years and Bss homeschooled our four children, D, B, P, and O. After returning to the the USA for five years, we are living in Abu Dhabi now.

It's the New Zoo Review (coming right at you!)
Let me second Al Ain Taxi's appraisal of the Al Ain Zoo. It is much improved even from just a few months ago.
The big cat area (which is labeled "cat house" on all the signs, and yes, I couldn't help giggling) was an especially big hit with the kids.
The only drawback is that the overlook for many of the cats is high above (for safety, I'm sure), so you end up with views like this:
and this (the bear now has a lot more room and a partner)
and this:
D took this one. It took her six or seven times to catch him with his tongue out:
And best of all for Bss and me, O was so worn out, he took a long nap, starting from before we left the parking lot:
The cost has gone up to 10 dirhams for adults and 5 for larger children, but I'd say that it is worth it.
(Obscure reference in the post title for both those Americans who might get it - sorry, I couldn't resist)

Al Ain Zoo
One of the things that we are looking forward to in Al Ain is the zoo. Currently we have to drive three hours the closest zoo, so it will really be nice to have one in the same town. And our whole family can go for only 6 dirham (less than $2). The zoo has 88 species of mammals, 102 of birds, plus more than 30 of reptiles and fish. This page has lots more info.
